On Wednesday and Friday evenings, Kona Village’s aha`aina (feast, or lu‘au) honors old traditions in a decidedly upbeat formats.Immerse yourself in an authentic cultural journey surrounded by ancient Hawaiian fish ponds. Your evening will begin with traditional foods prepared in an imu (Hawaiian earthen oven) or umu (Polynesian earthen oven). A sumptuous buffet also showcases heritage foods such as kalua pig, lomi lomi salmon and poi along with modern favorites like fresh island fish, tasty chicken and tropical fruits.Enjoy a mai tai or other refreshing libation and sit back to enjoy our entertainment. On Wednesdays, witness Maori songs from New Zealand, the New Zealand poi ball dance, the Samoan fire dance, and the hip-shaking Tahitian tamure. On Friday’s, see implements, chants and dance that reminisce about “Boat Days” of Honolulu, the influence of all of Polynesia in Hawai‘i and the island’s Paniolo (cowboys).
